Samrawit Fikru was born in the Ethiopian town of Asella. she had never seen or heard of a computer until she was 17 when she moved to Addis Ababa from her birthplace.
Samrawit Fikru stands out from the crowd as one of the few people with the rare ability to identify and solve an issue. While also spotting a possible business opportunity. Her success in the tech field has been built on her natural entrepreneurial spirit. Her early career experiences attest to her relentless ambition.
She studied software engineering after passing grade 12th and received her diploma from MicroLink Information Technology College in 2004. Samrawit began working in a music CD shop in her early twenties. Where she rapidly discovered the difficulties of handling everyday sales without a comprehensive system in place. They were unable to meet customers’ expectations without an accurate inventory record, resulting in their displeasure.
Samrawit, an undergraduate student at HILCOE College at the time. Took matters into her own hands and designed a point-of-sale system that changed the shop’s sales and inventory management.
The company’s owner saw the importance of the system she created and purchased it from her. However, she quickly learned that not many firms were keen to adopt her innovation. She created a maintenance management system and pitched it to various companies.
Then she created an SMS lottery system. But selling the system to other businesses proved to be extremely difficult. Some even questioned her abilities solely based on her age and gender. Nonetheless, these challenges did not prevent her from following her aim of developing a great computer firm Samrawit persisted despite doubt and hostility.
She felt deep down that her concept had enormous potential and she has the talents and commitment to make it a reality.
Samrawit had difficulty selling her well-developed systems and concluded. That she needed to conceive a new approach to an old problem. Since she frequently worked late. Samrawit had trouble hailing a taxi to take her home. And she was nervous about her safety whenever she took a taxi. Then she began asking individuals if they’d ever seen something similar. And was astounded to discover that everyone was dealing with the identical problem she had personally witnessed.
Samrawit Fikru saw an opportunity to address the difficulties in hailing taxis and safety concerns with her sharp problem-solving abilities and entrepreneurial drive. This resulted in the creation of RIDE, Ethiopia’s first taxi-booking platform.
Through her determination and innovative thinking, Samrawit has not only altered the way Ethiopians book cabs but also paved the road for other ambitious entrepreneurs in the tech field.
